Becoming Christian: Why does God allow suffering?

If God is all powerful and good, why is there suffering? I am not a pastor or a preacher. I am just sharing my metamorphosis of thought and experience as I go through it.

After God gave me a glimpse of truth, I've been left with the task of rediscovering the world with Christian vision. The first prominent question I started asking myself is, if God is good and in control, why is there suffering? Why does it exist? Why allow Satan to exist? Why hell? Why create man who God says is born a sinner? Why not just make us good and harmonious?

In this first phase of understanding I answered myself by saying that this experience here on Earth is to put us through a test. We are here to perfect our souls through a series of many challenges here on Earth. I don't seek to convince anyone of this. This is only an idea in the beginning of understanding. God is all-knowing, so the test is not for His sake. I think time here on Earth can humble us and make us more aware of our own mistakes or weak spots.
