Little Girl, Big Potential
I spent a summer in Peru in an effort to get clean water to children. At the time, the statistics on child mortality were staggering, mainly due to a lack of clean water. This is a painting of one of the children living so remote in the Andes that all they have for food are potatoes and the occasional alpaca meat. One of my colleagues there grew up in a similar community and somehow managed to go from her native tongue of Quechua, to Spanish, to English and then got a Master's degree and later establish her life in Australia. The children spend 2 WEEKS commuting to school. It takes days to walk to school, they spend a few nights there, and then spend a few days walking back home. This is one such student.
