Becoming Christian; a Daily Experience

Becoming Christian has been a daily experience. It's something I continually work on with joy and interest. I ask Jesus to reveal more to me and guide me to a better, more solidified understanding of what he wants out of me.

It's a continual process, don't be discouraged. People talk about experiences with the Holy Spirit, but that doesn't mean that their journey towards God has been accomplished. Jesus says in the Bible, he dines with sinners, he is here to heal the sick, he is not here to heal those who have nothing to heal. If you're deep in sin, he just might come to you when you call and surrender to him.

Since my experience, I have continued asking Jesus to protect me, separate me from what's been in me and attached to me pulling me into darkness. I have had to learn how to stop sinning. Jesus has had to reveal to me what sin is! I thought I was near perfect because I've followed the ten commandments very well most of my life. Sin is much more than the 10 Commandments. The 10 Commandments are not enough. You are so worthy of God, because you are his creation, made in his image, made by him with great care; he "knitted" you in the womb. But you also have a choice, a free will he gave us. Call Jesus to help you find your way. Ask him, continually, to take over your life, to show you how to live in the light.

John 1:5

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

The word "overcome" in this passage is translated from a word that can also be translated as "comprehend", "extinguish", "master", "over take", "put out".

If you are not carried and guided by the light of God within you, the Holy Spirit, then you are part of darkness. You can not, comprehend, master, or overcome the light without Jesus. Jesus is here to help guide us from darkness into light. I know from personal experience and the testimonies of others, that we are confused, lost, blind, veiled until we ask for the presence of Jesus, repeatedly and until Jesus chooses to answer us when we have truly given ourselves to him. When we let go of our pride in thinking we can do it all on our own, thinking we know better than God, thinking that our way is the most informed and superior way, we make room for God, we open the door for Jesus willingly.

Listen to testimonies of others. Once Jesus is allowed into our hearts, his presence lights places we couldn't see before. Many testimonies, mine included, state that it's clear now that Jesus was always there knocking at the door. For me, I know the door was locked with my pride in my intelligence and my competence and my accomplishments and my ability to destroy anyone in an argument about religion versus atheism and agnosticism. I had been through a lot and in overcoming I grew in pride, believing I was more competent and reliable than God. But I understand better now that what I had been put through, no matter how awful, is a gift and an opportunity to show God how great my faith.

How great is my faith when I feel left alone on an island with demons, sinners, sickness, dirtiness and the light of God so distant that harm could come to be at the hands of people living in dark? How great is my faith when I trust in God? When I carry the light within me, no matter how the darkness attempts to consume me, conceal my light, to put me out, I am still standing. I choose. My will is to choose God, to choose light, to keep the Holy Spirit in me, even when I'm being attacked for it. I protect it with all that I have because I am invincible with God on my side. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Also translated to "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.")

John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
